"Let's Talk about Sex!" cover;

Cesas, the national reference centre for the promotion of emotional and sexual health, has announced the launch of a new educational tool in Luxembourg: the "Let's Talk about Sex!" guide.

The launch of this new guide comes as Cesas' second emotional and sexual health awareness week kicks off today, Monday 7 December 2020.

"Let's Talk about Sex!" aims to make talking about sexuality and emotional and sexual health to young people easier. This guide is designed for professionals who supervise and support young people and is in line with the objectives of the 2019 multi-year “Emotional and Sexual Health” National Action Plan.

On this occasion, the four ministries responsible for this national action plan, in this case the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Family, Integration and the Greater Region, the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth and the Ministry of Equality between Women and Men, stressed the importance of promoting a positive approach to sexuality and continuing awareness of emotional and sexual health according to World Health Organisation (WHO) definitions.

Under the coordination of the Health Directorate, these four ministries along with Planning Familial, Cesas, the LGBTIQ+ Cigale centre, the HIV Berodung service of the Luxembourg Red Cross and the association of parents of children with intellectual disabilities (APEMH) brought together their experience in matters of young people's sexuality. The 120-page guide is published in German, French and English and contains 44 theoretical sheets with illustrations, supplemented by references and a directory of players in the field of emotional and sexual health in Luxembourg.

The guide aims to promote a holistic and positive approach to sexuality and give psycho-socio-educational staff and teachers the means to support and accompany young people seeking an emotional and sexual life that is autonomous, positive and respectful of others. It provides a validated, neutral and coherent information base, so that every adult who has to deal with this subject with young people can find adequate, precise and correct answers.

The publication of this guide will be supplemented by training courses on these various subjects to be organised in 2021. They will be provided by the pool of Cesas trainers, with the development of teaching sheets planned for the medium term.

“Let's Talk about Sex!” can be ordered via email: letstalkaboutsex@cesas.lu.
