On Friday 16 May 2025, Stëmm vun der Strooss, a local non-profit organisation which supports people experiencing homelessness and vulnerable members of society, reported that it recently received a €5,000 donation from the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is an international organisation formed of lay Catholics. It was founded in 1833 in Paris and later adopted Saint Vincent de Paul as its patron saint. Its mission today remains to help people in need.
Jeanine Daubach from the Oeuvre Saint Vincent de Paul explained: "In Luxembourg, many towns once had a Vincentian conference, but sadly, the one in Ettelbruck is now the only one still active - thus representing our national Oevre de Saint Vincent de Paul. We collect donations in order to provide swift and unbureaucratic assistance to people in need."
Alexandra Oxacelay, Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, provided details about the services provided in the north part of the country: "In Ettelbruck, as in other places, the number of homeless and financially distressed individuals continues to grow. That's the reason why we serve every day on average 120 meals to many people in the restaurant located 47 Rue Prince Henri. Since November 2023, in the office of the ligue medico sociale, a team of seven volunteer doctors have also been providing medical care to sick and vulnerable individuals without health insurance", as part of the "Dr Stëmm" service.
Jeanine Daubach noted: "We have chosen to specifically support this project in Ettelbruck with our donation of €5,000."
