Luxembourg's Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity has reported that the eleventh edition of Diversity Day in the Grand Duchy took place on Thursday 15 May 2025.
As part of this event, Luxembourg's Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, Yuriko Backes, visited CACEIS, a signatory of the Luxembourg Diversity Charter since 2012, which is reportedly making an innovative and concrete commitment to diversity within its corporate culture. The minister also participated in the official signing session of the Luxembourg Diversity Charter at the headquarters of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Service (CGDIS).
During her visit to CACEIS, Minister Backes learned about the bank's commitment to diversity. CACEIS has implemented a project called "ONE Caceis", which is composed of three elements: employee empowerment, client success, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), under the slogan "We care, We dare, We grow". To further strengthen its commitment to diversity, CACEIS plans to launch a barometer in June 2025 that is expected to provide a comprehensive, non-hierarchical assessment of the grounds for discrimination.
Minister Backes praised the bank's commitment, emphasising that "CACEIS is not only a privileged partner of the [Diversity] Charter but also a true ambassador of diversity for Luxembourg."
CACEIS has also obtained the "Actions Positives" label (a programme managed by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity) and has signed the Women in Finance Charter.
Later in the day, Minister Backes delivered a welcome speech at the official signing session of the Luxembourg Diversity Charter at the headquarters of the CGDIS, which is among the charter's new signatories. The minister stated: "Diversity is a reality and an asset of our society. In these difficult times, when we are facing widespread international backlash against women's rights, the rights of LGBTIQ+ people and other minorities, we must remain steadfast in defending and promoting diversity at all levels. This is not only an ethical choice, but also a sound economic one. The figures speak for themselves and demonstrate that companies with greater gender diversity in their management teams are 25% more likely to outperform their competitors in terms of profitability. This correlation is also observed for cultural or ethnic origin. Indeed, companies that are more ethnically and culturally diverse are 35% more likely to have better financial performance than those that are less diverse."
The list of new signatories now stands at around 30 entities, including the CGDIS, and the full list consists of 357 signatories.
On the morning of Monday 19 May 2025, Minister Backes along with Luxembourg's Minister for the Civil Service, Serge Wilmes, will participate in the creation of the "Diversity Wall", a participatory mosaic-like work symbolising the uniqueness born of individual diversity.
As reported by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity, the objectives of Diversity Day are to: promote diversity strategies implemented within organisations; enable creative thinking around the concept of diversity; raise awareness of the issue of diversity among the general public and organisations; celebrate diversity in all its facets.
