Shakespeare's The Tempest to be Performed with Original Music and Instruments

In commemoration of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, the Abbaye de Neumunster in Luxembourg-Grund will host the classic play The Tempest on Saturday 23 April 2016 in the Salle Robert Krieps at 20:00.

The play will be performed as Shakespeare originally wrote it with the music he intended to go with it and on instruments that are correct for the era. Serge Ayala, director and actor, will be joined by the Shakespearian actors Eliot Giuralarocca and Rachel Winters along with the early music ensembles Le Tendre Amour and Quatricinia for this original production.

Quatricinia: Quatricinia is an early music chamber ensemble and was founded in 2012 by four musicians who live in Luxembourg. It has performed mainly in this country, playing for, among others, the British and the Spanish Embassies and accompanying vocal ensembles like Intermedii. It has also organised pedagogical projects for different schools in Luxembourg such as St. George’s International School and the ISL. In 2014, Quatricinia produced “La Tromba – Eine Geschichte der Trompete”, performed for the Luxembourgish trumpet’s association Trombuco’s festival “Trumpet Days“ in Dudelange. In 2016, already established as non-profit organisation, Quatricinia, a.s.b.l. is co-producing two major projects that will be performed in the Abbey de Neumünster: from 21 to 23 April: The Tempest and La Historia del Cautivo, in commemoration of the deaths of William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes.

Le Tendre Amour: Taking its name from a prevalent theme of the age of Louis XIV, Le Tendre Amour is an energetic group of musicians who have been drawn together by their common dedication to performing music of the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in a way that is inspiring to the audiences of today. The ensemble, directed and organised by Katy Elkin and Esteban Mazer, is based in Barcelona. The ensemble has been invited to perform in important festivals throughout Europe and the USA.

The performance will be in English and is anticipated to last 74 minutes, not including an intermission.

The British Ambassador to Luxembourg, John Marshall, is patron to the event. Quatricinia is co-producing The Tempest in Luxembourg with the ensemble Le Tendre Amour from Barcelona.
