Stage 3 of the 67th annual Flèche du Sud Luxembourg road bicycle race was cancelled on Friday afternoon after 14 riders were injured in two serious crashes.

The cyclists were in the middle of the 152,1 km Stage 3 of the event when the incident occurred. The Central de secours d'urgence was informed of two crashes which occurred between Nagem and Hostert, taking down several competitors. Six cyclists are said to have sustained serious injuries.

Six ambulances from Redange, Ettelbuck and Steinfort were dispatched to the scene, before a SAMU helicopter and paramedics from Esch-sur-Alzette transported the wounded to the Centre hospitalier du Nord and the Hôpital du Kirchberg.

No further details have yet been issued.
