On Friday 2 October 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Culture announced that the 2027 edition of the National Literary Competition will be dedicated to children’s and young people’s literature in Luxembourgish, French, German and/or English.
Established in 1978, the National Literary Competition aims to encourage literary creation in the Grand Duchy and thereby support a key element of the national cultural ecosystem, namely the literary sector.
The competition will have two prize categories, one for adult authors and the other for young authors aged twelve to nineteen.
“Adult authors” category
Two first prizes of €7,500 may be awarded: one for a manuscript of children’s literature (up to the age of twelve) and the other for a manuscript of young people’s literature (from the age of twelve).
“Young authors aged twelve to nineteen” category
Two first prizes of €3,000 may be awarded: one for a manuscript of children’s literature (up to the age of twelve) and the other for a manuscript of young people’s literature (from the age of twelve).
The competition is open to authors or groups of authors who hold Luxembourg nationality, reside in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg or have one or more fixed or predominant places of work within the territory of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
From 2027 onwards, participants will only be required to submit one printed copy of their manuscript. This measure aims to reduce participation costs, which authors have regularly considered high, while also addressing accessibility and environmental sustainability concerns. The Ministry of Culture will digitise the manuscripts and make them available to the jury members.
The deadline for submitting manuscripts is Tuesday 15 June 2027.
