A new petition has been launched calling on the Chamber of Deputies (parliament) to take stronger action to make Luxembourg's cultural scene more accessible.
Initiated by local cultural actors (including Frilly Curtains Comedy), the petition argues that "culture should be for everyone -not just those who can afford to pay for access, and not just those who can walk through a door." It calls on MPs to "recognise this barrier and work with communities to find a fair, inclusive solution-whether through subsidised access to accessible venues, public cultural spaces, or infrastructure support for small event organisers."
As petitioner Jess Bauldry explained: "Despite laws and support programmes, grassroots and informal cultural events, open mic nights, small concerts and poetry readings remain out of reach for many people with mobility challenges or invisible disabilities. Venues either aren't accessible or require fees that small organisers simply cannot afford. The result is a cultural landscape that unintentionally excludes disabled people."
The petition thus calls on the Luxembourgish parliament "to work with communities to make culture truly inclusive" through practical measures such as:
- opening public spaces as fully accessible cultural hubs;
- offering financial support for private venues investing in accessibility;
- providing micro-grants for organisers renting accessible venues;
- creating a centralised platform listing venue accessibility features;
- listening to disabled artists and organisers when shaping policy.
