The Nuit de la Culture (Culture Night) will be returning to Esch-sur-Alzette on Saturday 11 September 2021, from 18:00 until midnight.

Nuit de la Culture 2021 will take place in the heart of the "Ellergronn" nature reserve, 2 km south of Esch-sur-Alzette. This exceptional site was used for the exploitation of iron ore just a few decades ago and fits with this year's theme: "Earth and Memory".

Around 50 activities are on the agenda, from concerts and exhibitions to workshops and readings, all of which can be discovered with family, friends, colleagues or alone.

The highlights of this edition revolve around four main events:

Kermesse - Compagnie La Machine

Candlelight shooting, flame fishing, rotisserie and chocolate are the highlights of this show which is part of the great tradition of fairground arts. The actors will accompany visitors in the discovery of the eight stands offering sweets and delicacies but also unfamiliar flavours.

Gauguin's turtle - Compagnie Luc Amoros

To design this show, Luc Amoros was inspired by the French artist Paul Gauguin who, during one of his stays in the Marquesas Islands, had the idea of painting on the shell of a young turtle lost on a beach. This show quickly takes on the appearance of a veritable ballet bubbling with sounds and colours, mixing painting, music and text, all orchestrated on an impressive metal structure.

Ephemeral trajectories - Compagnie Ampersand variations / In situ circus creation

Two circus performers create their own path: the first close to the earth with a wire and the second in the air with a tightrope walker. Accompanied by a soundscape and a singer, they cross the small valley of the Ellegronn above a sloping well at nightfall.

Ball - The Yokel

Nuit de la Culture 2021 will end with a grand ball, to the sound of festive music, banjos and ritornello, skilfully orchestrated by the music group The Yokel. Between folk, bluegrass and pop, this group of musicians from Lorraine (France) will perform a digest of American East-Coast and Southern music, seasoned with French sauce.

Loïc Clairet, programmer of Nuit de la Culture, commented: "For this edition of the Nuit de la Culture, we are delighted to count on the participation of local and international companies and artists. Some of them have been invited this year in preparation for the five Culture Nights which will take place in 2022 as part of the European Year of Culture to be held in Esch-sur-Alzette".
