The IMS has unveiled another part of the programme for this year's Luxembourg Sustainability Forum, taking place on 25 April 2019 at Cercle Cité, from 13:30.
On this occasion, the event will put the spotlight on science-based targets and action in the fight against climate change. Indeed, the most recent IPCC special report has recalled the urgent need to stay within the 1.5°C maximum temperature. The event will discuss the level at which companies should set their individual targets and if they are doing enough in this area. Science-Based Targets will help quantify and assess these efforts for a low-carbon model.
An international high-level panel will thus discuss how companies have embarked on this initiative and have taken concrete steps. There will be two introductory speeches: "What science tells us today. Presentation of IPCC’s latest conclusions and urgent need to act", by Hans-Otto Pörtner (Working Group II Co-Chair, IPCC) and "Understanding Science-Based Targets", by Alexander Farsan (Global Head of Science-Based Target, WWF).
This will be followed by a round-table entitled "How can companies set concrete targets in line with IPCC’s recommendations?", taking place from 17:00 to 18:00. The discussion will bring together Hans Otto Pörtner, Alexander Farsan, Laurence Pessez (Head of CSR, BNP PARIBAS Group) and Henrik Sundström (Vice President Sustainability Affairs (Global), ELECTROLUX). Tomás Sercovich (CEO, Business in the Community Ireland) will moderate the discussion.
