On 7 October 2016, Luxembourg’s Handicap International announced a €6,000 donation from the Hesper Run.

As a result of July’s 1000km Hesper Run, organised by the Laftreff Hesper committee, and financial support from the Hesperange commune, Handicap International has raised €6,000. On 3 October 2016, the Mayor of Hesperange, Marc Lies, the College of Aldermen, and members of Lartreff Hesper’s committee presented the association with their collected amount.

On 10 July this year, for the 17th edition of the Hesper 1000km, a total of 645 participants met in Hesperange Park to run 7,232 kilometres. In the end, those who took part raised €6,000 for humanitarian mine-clearing projects led by Handicap International.

The organisation started in refugee camps in Thailand for Cambodian landmine victims. Sandrine Guivarch, Partnership Manager of Handicap International, added that the association developed mine-clearing and decontamination activities following numerous conflicts in the world. With the profit of €6000, the association will be able to clear 6,000m2 of mines.
The next 1000km Hesper Run will take place on Sunday 9 July 2017.
