By committing to children's rights in educational and vocational training, and the protection of natural resources, Dachser is continuing a collaboration that began ten years ago in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, with the aid organisation Terre des hommes and extends its commitment to other regions in India, Nepal, Brazil and Namibia.

During the next five years, the logistics service provider will invest over €1.1 million in local aid projects to sustainably improve the lives of people relying on the principle of "support autonomous development".

As a company acting globally, we are strongly encouraged to actively engage in favour of improving living conditions of those who do not benefit as much as we from globalisation" said Bernhard Simon, CEO of Dachser. "Sustainable aid requires patience and endurance. That is why we continue to support the work of local project partners, Terre des hommes in India, while we also look to other countries and continents."

Project results over the last decade show that the living conditions of children and young people in 136 villages of Uttar Pradesh, a poor state in northern India, have improved sustainably:

- Nearly 17,000 children and women were informed of their rights and encouraged to actively participate in democratic Indian society.

- More than 15,300 children have benefited from basic education. About 60% of them were then able to attend regular schools, public or private. The number of students who dropped out of school fell by 40%.

- Approximately 4,700 children - mostly girls - were enrolled in vocational training centres to take computer and crafts courses.

- More than 14,200 trees have been planted by children and young people in areas within the scope of a project; 117 composting facilities and 112 biogas facilities have been introduced; 100 families were presented with solar lights to facilitate academic work at home in the evenings.

- 97 schools have been equipped with special tanks for drinking water and sanitation.

Dachser opened its Luxembourg base in 2011 in Grevenmacher and employs 30 staff for its logistics activities.
