Internationally renowned Australian designer and artist Gemma O’Brien will be holding a talk on her work and influences at the auditorium of the Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (MUDAM) in Luxembourg-Kirchberg on Wednesday 9 October 2024, from 18:30 to 20:00.
Gemma O'Brien, a.k.a. Mrs Eaves, is known for her bold graphics, illustrative lettering and hand-painted murals aiming to “elevate words to art”. Brands such as Apple, Nike and Google commissioned her work; her art also forms part of the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York City.
After leaving law school to pursue graphic design, she became inspired by letterpress printing and has since gone on to build a career around drawing, painting and digital design. Beyond her commercial design projects, she explores themes of language, nature and the human experience through her artistic practice.
In this talk, Gemma O’Brien will discuss her intricate typography, wall paintings and brand collaborations from the past decade. With live demos of painting, drawing and calligraphy, she will reflect on how analogue processes shaped pivotal moments in her career, and how her art practice is being influenced by her current research in neuroaesthetics.
This talk will be held in English; it is free for everyone interested.
