In the context of Digital ICT Week, the IT One Gala, organised by the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Farvest group, was held on Tuesday 1 December 2020, online.
Luxembourg's Minister Delegate for Digitisation, Marc Hansen, gave the opening speech of the Gala and the Luxembourg ICT Awards. In his speech, he underlined the extreme importance that digital tools have assumed since the onset of the health crisis due to COVID-19. “Technology has been a huge factor in keeping the country running,” he said. According to the Minister, many things that were deemed impossible before the crisis have become so in record time. “I remain convinced that it is vital to keep this openness and to make the most of the opportunities offered. This is why I am very interested in the innovative solutions developed by companies in the fields of ICT in Luxembourg.”
Minister Hansen then gave a brief overview of certain projects of the Ministry of Digitisation in the context of new technologies including the blockchain of the Luxembourg public sector, for example, which already has several use cases, and the AI4Gov initiative concerning artificial intelligence and in which the Ministry is actively collaborating.
Minister Hansen expressed his enthusiasm for the recent launch of the GovTech Lab by the ministry, in collaboration with the State Centre for Information Technology. "It is about accelerating technological innovation within the public sector in order to provide more innovative and user-oriented public services." The methodology chosen for the GovTech Lab is in itself a novelty for the public sector: open innovation. "We are counting on innovative minds and creative start-ups to offer us technological solutions that are more focused on user needs and more efficient", stressed the Minister.
