The University of Luxembourg has announced four upcoming events for January: a lecture on the role of the European Central Bank (ECB) and national central banks, a conference on the internet and the European market, Data Privacy Day 2020 and Luxembourg Legal Hackers Meetup.

The first event, "The Role of the European Central Bank and National Central Banks under European Law", will take place on Monday 27 January 2020 from 17:00 to 18:30 in Weicker building (Ground floor; 4 Rue Alphonse Weicker, L-2721 Luxembourg). In this lecture, Christos Gortsos (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) will provide a comprehensive overview of EU central banking law with a functional approach. He will systematically analyse the role of the ECB as a monetary and banking supervisory authority in the eurozone. The following day, the University of Luxembourg will host the the third edition of the Data Privacy Day at the Maison du Savoir on Belval campus. Starting at 09:00, this half-day event includes both short conference sessions and an exhibition area. Then, on Wednesday 29 January 2020, the university will host a conference on "The Internet and the European Market from a historical perspective". Organised by the Robert Schuman Initiative for European Affairs, this conference examines the relationship between the internet, EU regulation and market integration from a historical perspective. The speakers will analyse how the development of the internet has facilitated market integration while also creating major regulatory challenges at the EU level. Viviane Reding will speak about her role as European Commissioner for Information Society and Media (2004-2010). The event begins at 16:00 and will take place in the Maison des Sciences humaines on Belval campus. Finally, the Luxembourg Legal Hackers Meetup on the subject "Communicating in a private way: why should you care?" will be taking place on Thursday 30 January 2020 in JFK Building (Room E00429; Avenue J.F. Kennedy, L-1855 Kirchberg), from 18:15.
