Luxembourg will be hosting the 2020 Cleantech Forum Europe, a major international event in the field of clean technologies.

Organised by the Cleantech Group since 2005, the Cleantech Forum Europe has become an important event for investors, government agencies, companies, SMEs and start-ups. The forum generally attracts hundreds of delegates from 30 different countries. Similar forums are also held each year in Asia and the United States.

At the beginning of this year, the Ministry of the Economy, Luxinnovation and Luxembourg for Finance jointly submitted the candidacy of Luxembourg as the host city of this forum in 2020. The official announcement of the selection took place on 22 May 2019 at the Gala Dinner of this year's edition of the Cleantech Forum Europe in Stockholm, Sweden.

Richard Youngman, CEO of Cleantech Group, commented on the decision to hold the 16th Cleantech Forum Europe in Luxembourg: "The city lies at the very heart of Europe and shows a clear and active commitment to the development of technologies that promote sustainable development in areas such as the circular economy, mobility and smart cities." He added: "It is also a leading hub for green finance and investment funds, and hosts two institutions that are key to financing the European economy of innovation: the European Investment Bank and the European Investment Fund".

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy Étienne Schneider stated: "The economy of tomorrow must combine the impact of changing energy sources, the use of disruptive technologies and the digitalisation of our economy and society. We need and want economic growth, but sustainable growth with a high quality of life. [...] The decision to hold the Cleantech Europe 2020 Forum in Luxembourg clearly shows that we are on the right track".

The Cleantech Forum Europe 2020 programme will share ideas on the latest trends in this area with key stakeholders from across Europe, as well as covering areas in which Luxembourg is at the forefront and can demonstrate expertise of general interest.

Indeed, Luxembourg's leading financial market has proven to be a driving force for sustainable finance, a key issue for the cleantech sector. As such, the development agency of Luxembourg for Finance will contribute on this topic and organise an "investor dinner" to facilitate exchanges between participants and experts in this field.
