Most people think of Africans as people who need help, but the ‘African Sisters’ are two women from Africa who will be hosting the Awesome Woman event on 28 May 2016, sharing their energy and passion, at the Hotel Park Belle-Vue in Luxembourg city from 09:00 - 13:00.

Dot Bekker, originally from Zimbabwe, and Irene Wilkinson who comes from Malawi, met here in Luxembourg and were immediately drawn to work with each other and with so few Africans in Luxembourg they are now regularly called the ‘African Sisters’. They have been involved with various women’s networks and initiatives as well as supporting various local refugee initiatives for women.

In Africa women do not benefit from the same support or protective structures that one finds in Europe. Life for women ranges from girls who are not allowed to be educated to power houses of women who have transformed communities and supported their families. This is the background that these two women have both experienced in their individual communities and countries.

Both Dot and Irene are passionate about women living fully, especially when it comes to the many aspects of confidence and how the lack of it prevents so many women from stepping into their full potential.

Women have seen their place in the world change dramatically over the past 50 years, Dot expressed “today they are generally expected to be financially independent, keep a household in top shape, work within the community, be a supportive partner and amazing mother!” The that the real price of ‘having it all’ is that in all the activity women forget themselves and what is important to them as individuals.

Irene said “as women, we think confidence is just one thing, but in reality it has many facets. I see women who would believe themselves to be confident and yet they don’t live up to their full potential, seeking approval from others or fitting into situations that do not serve them. Confidence as many facets and we will explore these in the workshop.

The workshop will speak to such women’s issues as:

- Removing the outside labels and rediscovering your identity and priorities
- How we limit and self-sabotage ourselves and how this impacts our confidence and prevents women living up to their full potential
- How, as women, we give away our power and how to regain it.
- Why men don’t understand us
- How you can easily look and feel great to boost your confidence

Dot and Irene will be joined by Natalie Care, a London based stylist, to a diverse clientele including people like the Beckhams and royalty. She brings a fresh young perspective on style and confidence for today’s woman.
