Denise Voss, ALFI Chairman, held a press conference at the ALFI Spring Conference and stated that 41% of all net sales into European investment funds went into Luxembourg.
In 2015, Luxembourg experienced a record €3,371 billion of assets under management, an increase of 13% over 2014, in 3,877 funds. However, Denise Voss drew attention to the €135 billion drop in capital in January this year, offering FinTech as a way forward.
She stressed that Luxembourg must be at the forefront of change and be a first-mover. Re the recent fiscal reform in Luxembourg she welcomed the changes, but has concerns over potential greater drops in corporate taxation rates announced in other EU Member States.
ALFI continues to travel around the world to promote the Luxembourg financial centre and Luxembourg investment funds, with a recent roadshow stop in South Africa.
She also stressed the need to stimulate innovation, with the investment fund industry having a significant role to play. ALFI promotes the development in infrastructure and encourages products that advocate climate change, for example. The Luxembourg financial centre must be at the cutting edge, including promoting applications such as Know Your Customer. The future needs of investors is crucial, with the ALFI Spring Conference looking at this, as well as governance and ethics.
