Philip Gerard (Phil) MacKenna, the former landlord of the Black Stuff Irish Pub in the Val de Hamm in Luxembourg, passed away on Wednesday night, suddenly at Antrim Hospital.

The Black Stuff Irish Pub announced the news on social media earlier today "It is with a heavy heart that we say good bye to Phil MacKenna, who passed away last night. Because of the strange times we find ourselves in, we would like to invite you all to raise a glass tonight at 8pm from the comfort of your home. A toast to Phil, a great landlord, true gentlemen, fantastic barman and our Friend. Sláinte! Please respect his family's privacy in this difficult time."

Phil was very well known throughout the expatriate community for his great hospitality, charm and wit, and was a great supporter of various community and charity initiatives, including the Irish community.

Originally from Belfast, after retiring a few years ago, Phil and his wife Kathy returned to Cushendall in Northern Ireland.

Phil MacKenna is survived by his wife Kathy and his sister Maureen and brother Brian. Phil's brother Desmond passed away a number of years ago.

According to the offical death notice, Philip's remains will leave his residence in Cushendall on Saturday 21 March at 09:30 for Requiem mass in St. Mary's Church, Cushendall at 10:00, with burial afterwards in the adjoining graveyard. Family flowers only, donations in lieu to NI Hospice.
