The Luxembourg Durgotsav Association (LuxUtsav) has announced ts eighth Durga Puja festival, which is set to take place from Friday 16 to Tuesday 20 October 2026 at Salle Um Duerf in Itzig.
Durga Puja is a major Hindu festival celebrated particularly in India and Bangladesh. It honours Goddess Durga and her victory over the demon Mahishasura, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. UNESCO recognised Durga Puja in Kolkata as part of its Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2021.
According to the organisers, the Luxembourg celebration has previously attracted visitors from a range of nationalities and cultural backgrounds, welcoming approximately 300 visitors per day.
This year's programme will include traditional religious ceremonies, including “Pushpanjali” (floral prayers), “Dhunuchi Naach” (a traditional dance performed with incense) and “Sindoor Khela” (a vermilion ritual associated with the conclusion of the festival).
The venue will also feature an idol of Goddess Durga and her family, while the cultural programme will include music, dance performances and Indian cuisine.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in “Adda” (a Bengali tradition of informal conversation), and share “Bhog” (traditional festive food).
The organisers said that more than 40 families are involved in preparing this year's festival, working alongside LuxUtsav President Rahul Dey, General Secretary Manas Sarkar and nine committee coordinators.
The festival is open to visitors of all nationalities, cultures and faiths.
