Enovos has given a cheque for over €5000 to its long-term partner UNICEF-Luxembourg to support the project “Stoppt Kannerbestietnisser” against child marriages.
Enovos has given more than €5000 to the humanitarian organisation UNICEF in support of the project, which is part of its international campaign against child marriages.
The aim of the project is to abolish marriages involving minors in twelve countries where this form of violence is still practised. Every year, 15 million girls get married before their 18th birthday and nearly all of them leave school and are subjected to domestic violence. Indeed, 70,000 such girls die each year due to complications linked to pregnancy and childbirth.
Unicef is working daily to spare children this fate by negotiating the legal age of marriage as 18 years, as well as helping young girls to pursue their studies throughout adolescence and offering social and economic alternatives to their families.
The campaign also supports girls who are already married. The overall aim is to prevent child marriages all over the world.
