On Monday 10 March 2025, the British-Luxembourg Society (BLS), together with the Luxembourg Society in the UK, announced the establishment of a new educational awards programme, designed to promote enduring links and deepen ties between the UK and Luxembourg.

According to BLS, the educational award programme aims to strengthen cultural ties through academic pursuits and artistic endeavours. Up to four awards will be granted annually, with two awards designated for UK residents studying in Luxembourg (H.R.H. the Grand Duke Jean Award) and two for Luxembourg residents studying in the UK. Each award will initially be worth €1,000.

BLS added that the “H.R.H. the Grand Duke Jean Award” has received the approval and consent of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, in honour and memory of his father, Grand Duke Jean.

UK residents pursuing short studies or postgraduate studies in the arts, sciences, design, craft or conservation in Luxembourg are eligible to apply.

Michael-James Clifton, Council Member of the British-Luxembourg Society, shared the news at the BLS Annual General Meeting, stating: “His Royal Highness the Grand Duke’s approval and consent to name the award to Luxembourg after His father is a singular honour. We hope that the Award in honour and memory of H.R.H. the Grand Duke Jean will maximise the Award’s recognition and strengthen British-Luxembourgish ties long into the future. H.R.H. the Grand Duke Jean was the very epitome of the bond between the two nations."

Further details and information on the application process for the award will be available shortly.
