The Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg (OCL) has announced that its next concert will take place on Monday 9 November 2020 at the Philharmonie Luxembourg at 20:00.

For its next concert, the OCL invites listeners on an exploration of the Mozartian universe, through a programme mixing Mozart's symphonies with pieces composed in homage to the great Salzburg composer. The direction of the OCL is entrusted on this occasion to Julien Leroy.

After a promising start, notably with the Orchestre Philharmonique of Radio France and the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, the conductor Julien Leroy will direct the OCL in this concert dedicated to Mozart. If the Symphony no 32 in G major, first performed on 26 April 1779 still has the three-movement form associated with an opera overture, the “Linz” Symphony, in four movements, marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of the Classical symphony. Invited at the last minute to give a concert in the theatre of Linz, and not having any scores with him, Mozart hastily wrote this symphony, which has since then travelled around the world. The rondo Hommage à Mozart (Homage to Mozart) was composed by Jacques Ibert in 1956 on the occasion of the bicentenary of the composer’s birth. Dialog mit Mozart – Da Capo für Orchester (Dialogue with Mozart – Da Capo for orchestra) by Peter Eötvös premiered on 15 December 2016 in Salzburg.

Encouraged by Pierre Boulez, French rising star Julien Leroy started his career working as an assistant conductor of the Opéra de Paris and Ensemble Intercontemporain (EIC) with Susanna Mälkki and Matthias Pintscher. In 2014, he was awarded the ADAMI "Talents Chefs d’Orchestre" Prize. Such early success was followed by several engagements with orchestras in France. Abroad, Julien Leroy was invited to conduct the Orchestre de la Suisse-Romande, the New Japan Philharmonic, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Ottawa National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic, the Gulbenkian Foundation Orchestra, the Beirut Philharmonic Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, the Verbier Festival Orchestra as well as the orchestra of the Luzern Festival Academy. As a renowned artist in contemporary creation, Julien Leroy was appointed as First Guest Conductor with the Ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin in Luxembourg in 2019.
