From 18 to 22 October 2015, musical mother-son duo Gülsin and Erkin Onay will be in the Grand Duchy to shoowcase their violin and piano talents through special masterclasses and a performance at the Conservatoire concert hall.
Gülsin Onay has been practicing the piano since she was three, performing her first public recital at Radio Turque at the tender age of three and winning the prestigious 'Premier Prix du Piano' from the Conservatoir de Paris when she was just sixteen years old.
Gülsin has since won several more awards at major international competitions and delivered mesmerising performances at over seventy countries across the world. She was honoured with a State Medal from Poland and has had contemporary composers dedicate pieces to her.
Her son, Erkin Onay, inherited her musical aptitude as well as those of his grandfather, Joachim Reusch, who first taught him the violin. He studied the instrument from 1989 until 2009, taken at one point under the wing of Professor Rudolf Koelman, one of the last students of renowned violinist Jascha Heifetz.
Erkin has performed at numerous concerts in Turkey, as well as giving recitals in India, England and Germany. He has been the concertmaster of the Antalya State Symphonic Orchestra, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra and Ankara State Opera and Ballet.
Now the musical family will be visiting Luxembourg for an event co-organised by the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg, the Ville de Luxembourg, the Association Culturelle Turque au Luxembourg (ACTL) and the Turkish Embassy in Luxembourg.
The masterclasses will be held at the Conservatoire from Monday 19 October 2015, and will be performing a selected violin-piano duo repertoire the following day which will feature masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Saygun and Brahms.
