Luxembourgish feature film D'Land am Schiet (The Land in the Shadows), directed by Lukas Grevis and produced by respect.lu, will make its nationwide cinematic debut across the Grand Duchy on Wednesday 2 October 2024.

The Land in the Shadows had its first public screening to a sold-out audience at the Luxembourg City Film Festival in March 2024, hosted at the Cinémathèque in Luxembourg-Ville. Since then, it has garnered international attention, being showcased at international film festivals. Notably, the film was featured at the FEST - New Directors, New Films Festival in Espinho, Portugal, a festival spotlighting emerging European talent. The film's next festival appearance will be at the DEBUT22 Festspielen in Klosters, Switzerland, where it will compete with twelve other international debut films.

Synopsis: The Land in the Shadows tells the fictitious story of a little village in Luxembourg. Jos and his girlfriend Sara want to create a centre for refugees from the valley. As their plans become more concrete, the mascot of the village, a wild dog is killed. Jos is the main suspect. Misinformation, lies, rumours and fear turn the village against Jos and his family. Political and regional actors take on the chance to use the sentiments in their favour.

The film features known Luxembourgish talents such as Max Thommes (Mamenjong), Marie Jung (Little Duke) and Jil Devresse (Capitani). Adding a fresh dimension to the screen are Luxembourgish rappers Maalen Gars and MAZ, both making their feature acting debuts. Supporting roles are played by Annette Schlechter, Kora König and Tun Biever from the indie band Tuys. The cast also includes Alyn Fernandes, Margarida Domingos and poetry slammer Nicolas Calmes, among others.

To celebrate the film's cinema release, a series of six premiere events will take place across various cities and small cinemas throughout Luxembourg from 2 to 6 October 2024. These events will feature Q&A sessions with members of the cast and team.

The 73-minute-long film is in Luxembourgish and Portuguese, with English subtitles.
