On Monday 24 November 2025, the American Women’s Club of Luxembourg (AWCL) reported on its annual Gifts for Kids by AWCL campaign for 2025.

The volunteer-led initiative is designed to ensure that every child living in a Luxembourg foyer or group home receives a gift chosen just for them and on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 November the AWCL welcomed the foyers to the AWCL Clubhouse in Luxembourg-Beggen where they came to collect the gifts. The gifts will then be distributed to the children on St Nicholas Day (Saturday 6 December).

Since 1996, this volunteer driven initiative has worked hand-in-hand with counsellors and caregivers to help children feel included, valued and seen. What began as a small effort has grown into a national tradition of giving, supported by companies, schools and individuals across the country.

In 2024, 1,609 children across nearly 90 foyers received their Saint Nicholas gifts through Gifts for Kids. This year, the programme expected to fulfil more than 1,700 wishes across over 100 foyers, reflecting a growing need and an even greater opportunity to give.

The programme allows children to select a toy with support from their counsellor and each request is placed on a personalised ornament that includes the child’s name, age, gift request and price. These ornaments are then displayed on Giving Trees hosted by sponsors across Luxembourg. Donors contribute the amount needed to make those wishes possible. Gifts are then purchased and provided to foyers in time for Saint Nicholas Day and donors are encouraged to keep their ornament somewhere visible, as a reminder of the child whose wish they helped fulfil.

The AWCL said: ”Every gift is chosen by the child, reinforcing dignity, joy and belonging. No child should be left out of this important cultural tradition in Luxembourg. The foyers celebrate Saint Nicholas Day together, allowing children and families to share in the excitement and warmth of the season. Sponsors and donors play a visible role in making this possible, supporting not only the children but also the dedicated counsellors who guide and care for them throughout the year.”

For the 2025 campaign, the AWCL introduced a new logo, updated printed and digital materials for companies, schools and individuals and established a dedicated website (gfklux.org), which features donation options and sponsor information.
