A report published by STATEC this week revealed that 35% of Luxembourg's population volunteered in 2022.

This statistic makes Luxembourg the fourth country in Europe with the highest number of volunteers (in proportion to the population).

The "Regards" report found that most volunteers in 2022 gave their time to charities (25.3%) and sports associations (24.9%). 19.8% volunteered for cultural organisations, 6.4% for spiritual organisations and 23.6% for "other" organisations.

Volunteers in 2022 were more likely to be Luxembourgish (nationality) and aged between 61 and 80. They also came from well-off households, tend to be highly educated, happy and did not feel lonely.

The study also showed that people's feelings of well-being and social integration correlated with their involvement in voluntary work.

The report is based on data from the EU-SILC survey on household income and living conditions, which was conducted by STATEC during the second half of 2022. The analysis focuses on the practice of formal volunteering by the resident population.
