The 24th edition of the 1000 km Hesper charity race will take place in Hesperange on Sunday 13 July 2025.
As every year, the organising committee of Laftreff Hesper Asbl and the municipality of Hesperange will donate the entire amount raised from registrations to Handicap International Luxembourg.
This year marks the 16th year of collaboration between the 1000km Hesper and Handicap International and the aim of the race is to get as many runners as possible to cover a total of at least 1,000 km. The record to beat is 8,850 kilometres.
Those wishing to participate in the race should gather at Centre Nicolas Braun (next to the town hall) in Hesperange on Sunday 13 July, any time between 08:00 and 12:00. The route is 2 km long but participants are free to run as many laps as they wish.
The registration fee is €10 per adult and €3 per child (who must be accompanied by at least one adult), payable to the Comité Laftreff Hesper via bank transfer or on the day of the race. Advance payment can be made to IBAN LU97 1111 1712 4237 0000.
During the race, Handicap International members, joined by volunteers, will raise awareness among participants and visitors. There will also be awareness-raising activities at the Handicap International stand, including an obstacle course with a prosthesis and a sight-impairing mask.
President of Laftreff Hesper Asbl, Gaston Hoffmann, said: “Like Handicap International, we want to promote physical and mental wellbeing. Our charity run also encourages fair play, community spirit and solidarity with those less fortunate. Working with Handicap International has been a pleasure from the start. They’ve always shown a real interest in our activities and taken initiative to support and promote our event. On race day, they speak with participants about their work and you can really feel their commitment.”
Anaïs Bourgois, Head of Philanthropy at Handicap International, remarked: “It’s always a fantastic occasion. Staff, volunteers and people who care about our mission all come together in a warm and friendly atmosphere. We’re thrilled to take part again this year.”
In 2024, the event raised €6,000 for Handicap International to support humanitarian mine clearance projects.
