Each year, the Fondation Freiwëlleg Ettelbrécker Pompjeeën (Volunteer Ettelbrück Fire Department Foundation) provides material aid to firefighters from Ettelbruck or elsewhere in the Grand Duchy who have suffered damage in the course of their work or due to illness; if no application is made, the Foundation then decides to support organisations with humanitarian and social objectives - this year, the choice fell on the Stëmm vun der Strooss.
In the presence of the town's mayor Jean Paul Schaaf, who is also a member of the Foundation's Board of Directors, the president Léandre Mignon, and its members handed over a cheque for €2,500 to Alexandra Oxacelay, director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, a charity supporting the homeless and vulnerable members of society. The official handing over of the donation took place on Thursday 9 February in the new social restaurant of the charity at 47 rue Prince Henri in Ettelbruck.
The €2,500 will be used to finance part of the renovation costs of this social restaurant, which first opened its doors on Friday 3 February 2022.
Since the presence of the Stëmm vun der Strooss in March 2021 in a car park opposite Ettelbruck’s train station, a total of 6,759 meals have been served there, with a daily average of 50 people as of September 2022.
The charity thanked all members of the Fondation Freiwëlleg Ettelbrécker Pompjeeën for their trust in this project, which will finally make it possible to offer help to disadvantaged people in a region of the country where such a facility has not yet been established.
