The Luxembourg Red Cross and Caritas Luxembourg have launched separate appeals for donations to support victims of the floods in Pakistan.
Ongoing flooding in Pakistan has killed nearly 1,000 people; more than 30 million people have been affected by torrential rains and flash floods across the country.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has launched an emergency response in this context, with the Luxembourg Red Cross calling on the local population for its support.
"We have already deployed more than 500 responders to the flood-affected districts", said Pakistan Red Crescent President Abrar ul Haq. The Red Crescent is currently providing emergency aid in 23 of the most affected districts. In addition to the direct human impact, thousands of kilometres of roads and bridges have been destroyed.
In this complex context, the IFRC has already released emergency aid of 500,000 Swiss francs, allowing to help more than 30,000 people, and launched an emergency appeal for a total amount of 25 million Swiss francs. The Luxembourg Red Cross is calling for support for the emergency response through online donations: https://donate.croix-rouge.lu/urgence-pakistan/~my-donation?context_form_id=form_4b64a4fa9b8ff407e472da1eaad13222ffb0c5a6_630f576c1bcf11.44885547 or donations via bank transfer: IBAN LU52 1111 0000 1111 0000; reference: "Urgence Pakistan".
In addition, Caritas Luxembourg has launched an appeal for donations to support Pakistan flood victims. The distribution of food parcels and tents, as well as medical first aid, are priorities at present. In cooperation with its local partners, Caritas Luxembourg has already helped more than 8,000 people in this context.
To continue to support the Pakistani population in these challenging times, Caritas Luxembourg is calling for donations to be made either online: https://www.caritas.lu/en/make-donation or via bank transfer: (CCPL) IBAN LU34 1111 0000 2020 0000; reference: "Inondations Pakistan".
