The Humanitarian Aid of the Luxembourg Red Cross has announced that it is launching two new activities this summer to allow the public to discover international humanitarian law.
The inauguration of the thematic route "Law in War" at Luxembourg's National Museum of Military History (Musée National d'Histoire Militaire - MNMH) in Diekirch on 1 July 2022 marked the opening of the activities of the Humanitarian Aid of the Luxembourg Red Cross for summer 2022.
Since 10 July 2022, the "Sur les traces d’un humanitaire" (in the footsteps of a humanitarian) activities in Colpach-Bas have been added to this route. These activities offer simulations in the form of an escape room game and guided tours of an exhibition on emergency shelters deployed in Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and Chad, allowing visitors to familiarise themselves with the activities of the Humanitarian Aid of the Luxembourg Red Cross.
Escape room
"War has been raging in the country for two years now. With the clashes intensifying and drawing closer, you must come to the aid of the affected population. The situation is urgent. Find the humanitarian spirit within you!"
It is through this scenario of humanitarian deployment in time of war that the Humanitarian Aid of the Red Cross invites the public to discover its new activity inside Colpach Castle. Clue by clue, participants will manage to complete their rescue mission and discover many notions of international humanitarian law along the way. The escape room, available in French and Luxembourgish, is suitable for participants aged twelve (accompanied by an adult) to 77 years old, in groups of three to five people. The level of difficulty adapts to the group. The game lasts approximately one hour. The dates are available on the website: https://www.linscription.com/pro/activite.php?P1=104202
Exhibition on humanitarian housing
Right next to the escape room site, an exhibition on humanitarian housing is on display to the public. In addition to discovering the habitats built as part of Humanitarian Aid projects in the Sahel, guided tours are offered to explore the various issues at the source of the need for such shelters. Particular emphasis will be placed on the conduct of war and the impact of non-compliance with international humanitarian law for affected populations. This visit, in French and Luxembourgish, lasts 30 minutes and can be accompanied by the escape game.
