The government has introduced new penalties for companies who are found guilty of gender-based wage discrimination.
Seeking to redress the imbalance in pay between men and women, the government has voted on the new law of December 2016 for an amendment of the Labour Code regulating the financing of political parties.
This law is mainly known for introducing quotas into politics in order to achieve a balance between men and women on the electoral rolls in the framework of the parliamentary and European elections, but it also includes provisions on wage equality.
Under the new regulations, employers will from now on be subject to fines where an unjustified gender-based wage differential is found.
At a press conference yesterday, Lydia Mutsch stressed the importance of the Logib-Lux tool, software that allows companies to assess their current wage structure, and identify the existence or causes of possible wage inequalities using statistical regression analysis.
