On Wednesday 26 June 2024, Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg confirmed that the Junior Project Awards (JPA) 2024 took place at the Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

This event aims to promote and reward the best projects undertaken by secondary school students during the 2023-2024 school year. The initiative was accessible to two age categories. To this end, two competitions were organised, namely one for the lower cycle (students attending classes from 7th to 5th grade) and one for the upper cycle (students attending classes from 4th to 2nd grade). Out of a total of 42 registered teams, the jury finally designated fifteen finalist teams: four from the lower cycle (ESL, CDSE, LAML, LLIS) and eleven from the upper cycle (NOSL, MLG, EPF, ISL, LTL, LCE, LTETT, EPMC). The terms and conditions were the same for both age categories.

The initiative’s objective is to encourage project management, develop students' autonomy and transmit a taste for challenge. Given that the ability to plan and effectively manage a project is now one of the key skills required in all professional environments, this programme aims to give young people the opportunity to develop soft skills sought after in the working world. To participate, students had to write and submit a complete file as well as a video on their project and present it to an audience and a jury.

A total of three members of the jury evaluated and decided between the projects of the lower and upper cycle. Eloïse LeVot,  President of PMI Luxembourg and Founder of Il Bosco di Egam, Robert Bast, HR Manager at Raiffeisen and Head of R-Academy, as well as Victoria Woestmann, Member of the Management Allen & Overy Luxembourg Counsel and Attorney at the Court of Justice.

To determine the winners, the jury of experts based its evaluation criteria on creativity, originality and complexity of the project, the presentation on stage, cooperation and communication.

For the higher cycle: the first prize was awarded to the team "No is No" from the École Privée Marie-Consolatrice. Sofia Cardoso Vila Chã, Lara Marques Vieira, Kiara Marques, Rita Estimado, Alicia Mendes Ribeiro, Inês De Castro, Inès Wiander, Beatriz Alves Lopes, Lori Fernandes Gaspar, Esmira Muric and Leila De Moura have done everything to raise awareness, educate and promote a culture of respect, equality and dignity while offering support to potential victims and encouraging the reporting of sexual harassment. For this first place, the students will be able to attend a concert of their choice at the Atelier.

The second prize was awarded to the “Hair for Happiness” team from the Lycée Technique de Lallange. The project of Sam Schneider, Melvin Muratovic, Omar Cikotic and Adel Kolic aimed to support people with cancer by asking their friends, colleagues and teachers to donate hair. This team will be able to celebrate its victory during a game of Escape Game.

The third prize went to the "Orange Week" team from Lycée Aline Mayrisch. Awareness of sexual violence is close to the hearts of Julia Baldato, Lilou Deischter, Charlotte Kries, Nina Nijenhuis Calmes and Fancesca Olivero, who set up activities to raise awareness of this issue among their colleagues. The aim was mainly to raise awareness and to provide advice and ensure that the students in their school know how to behave in different situations and where to find help. The team was rewarded with a Kinepolis gift voucher.

For the lower cycle, the "Escape Room MLG by Dragon R&W" project from Maacher Lycée earned two entrance tickets to the Le'h Adventures park. Benjamin Gaspar's project aimed to raise awareness among young people about sustainability and technology through a logic and mystery game, partly played online.

This year, the jury also awarded a Coup de Cœur prize. It was awarded to the “Glutenfree Cookbook” project of the Private School Fieldgen. Marla Georges, Jamie Lucci, Nuria Ribeiro Couto, Ben Quiring, Eva Simon, Rojda Gül and Chloé Hayward Besnard created this project, which aims to help people with gluten intolerance by developing a specific cookbook. The team members will be able to celebrate this victory with Kinepolis tickets.
