On Wednesday 9 November 2022, the third day of the working visit to the United States, the Luxembourg delegation chaired by His Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke and led jointly by Luxmbourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Paulette Lenert, and the Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, arrived in New York.

During this day, a conference organised by the Luxembourg Private Equity Association (LPEA) took place as well as the ceremony for the presentation of the Luxembourg-American Business Award 2022.

At the start of the day, Minister Fayot delivered the opening speech at the conference organised by the LPEA aimed, on the one hand, at promoting Luxembourg as a centre leading financial institution in the field of investment funds and, on the other hand, to highlight the many possibilities for companies to raise funds in Luxembourg. The event brought together around 70 participants.

At the end of the event, the delegation went to Luxembourg House, where the offices of the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in New York are located, where Michel Franck, President of the Luxembourg American Chamber of Commerce (LACC) and Toni Dudsak, Executive Director of the LACC, welcomed them. They were awarded an honorary distinction by His Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke and the Minister of the Economy, respectively, for their longstanding dedication to promoting the Grand Duchy in the United States and strengthening links between the two countries.

In parallel, Minister Lenert visited the world leader in care for patients of all ages, research and educational programmes, Memorial Sloan Kettering. The centre, founded in 1884, is at the forefront of the fight against cancer and recognised as one of the most respected centres in the world.

A health delegation was also hosted at the New York Genome Center, an independent, non-profit academic research institution that serves as a multi-institutional centre for collaborative genomics research.

At the end of the day, His Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke and the ministers Lenert and Fayot, attended the 10th Luxembourg-American business award ceremony at a gala evening in New York, organised by the Luxembourg-American Chamber of Commerce and the Luxembourg Trade & Investment Office in New York.

For this 2022 edition, the award was given to the DuPont group, which has been present in Luxembourg since 1962 and which recently invested in its site in Contern with a view to extending its production line for Tyvek, this material with insulating properties used in particular in protective clothing for healthcare workers developed by DuPont.

Organised by the LACC, the business award rewards every two years American companies established in the Grand Duchy for their important role and their lasting contribution to the Luxembourg economy. Past winners include Amazon, Goodyear Rubber & Tire Company, Guardian Industries, Avery Dennison Corporation, Husky Injection Molding Systems, Delphi Corp, Airtech Advanced Materials Group and Ampacet Corporation. DuPont is awarded this award for a second time, after an interval of exactly 20 years.

During the award ceremony, His Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke said: “DuPont is the perfect example of long-lasting cooperation and friendship between Luxembourg and the United States, between Europe and the North America. With this award, we are honouring the trust that DuPont has shown in Luxembourg by contributing to the diversification and prosperity of our economy and to the friendship between the United States and Luxembourg. 20 years after first receiving this award, DuPont maintains its long-standing commitment to the Grand Duchy, excellence and innovation. My sincere gratitude and appreciation goes to the CEO and the entire DuPont team.”

Minister Fayot added: “DuPont is one of the jewels of Luxembourg industry of which we are very proud in Luxembourg. DuPont's strategy is fully in line with our vision for the future of Luxembourg's economy and society: it is focused on sustainable development and includes efforts in the circular economy and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. As Minister of the Economy, I would like to thank the entire DuPont Group, its leaders and its staff, both in Luxembourg and in the United States, for their long-standing commitment to Luxembourg. Congratulations on this 10th Luxembourg-American Business Award.”
