On Saturday 16 May 2026, Dutch runner Bart Janssen and Moldova’s Tatiana Proca claimed victory in the men’s and women’s marathons respectively at the 19th edition of the ING Night Marathon uxembourg, with the race starting and finishing at LuxExpo in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

The event began under steady rain, which continued for approximately half an hour, as around 18,000 participants set off from LuxExpo. According to the organisers, runners from 61 countries representing 125 nationalities took part in this year’s edition. The 42.195 km course passed through several districts of the capital, including Kirchberg, Limpertsberg, Belair, Merl, Hollerich, Gare and the city centre, before returning to LuxExpo in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

In addition to the main marathon, the programme included a half marathon, a team relay (Team Run) and the 5K Run For Success for beginner runners. Younger participants also took part in the Minimarathon for runners aged twelve and over and the Mini Minimarathon for children under twelve.

In the main marathon, Bart Janssen claimed victory in the men’s race with a net time of 2:28:21. Speaking to Chronicle.lu after the finish, his wife, Manon Zuuring, said the couple have six children - five boys and one girl. “The oldest is seventeen and the youngest is five,” she noted. According to Zuuring, the 44-year-old runner took up running during the COVID-19 period after previously playing football from an early age. “Before football. From I think four years old always football and then he switched to running and now only running.”

“This is first time in Luxembourg. And this is the biggest win for me. My best time is 2:24, but it's about two years ago. So for under 2:30 for my age, it's very good, I think. So I'm very pleased with it,” Bart Janssen told Chronicle.lu.

France’s Alexandre Mayer finished second in the men’s marathon with a net time of 2:30:19, while Italy’s Ahmed Nasef, representing BSI Luxembourg, completed the podium in 2:32:29.

The winners were awarded by Michael Busch, CEO of ING Luxembourg, Luxembourg City Municipal Councillor Simone Beissel and former athlete Charles Grethen, finalist in the men’s 1,500 metres at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Among Luxembourg runners, Claude Schmit recorded the best result in the men’s marathon, completing the course in 2:51:08. “I didn't expect to win the race. It was my first time doing the marathon here, only the half marathon a few times, but I didn't expect to be the first Luxembourger,” he said after the finish. “It was very difficult at the start because I was looking at the weather the whole week and I was hoping for no rain, no wind, and we had everything. So the start was quite difficult and in Merl, there was quite a bit of wind, but the rest was okay,” added Claude Schmit.

In the women’s marathon, victory went to Tatiana Proca of Moldova, who has been living in Luxembourg for many years. Competing in her fourth ING Night Marathon Luxembourg, she completed the course in a net time of 2:59:54 after finishing second in last year’s edition. “But I had a very bad time last year. So I'm happy that this year I made a good time,” said Tatiana Proca after the race. “I could have done better for sure, but I think with the weather conditions and everything, I'm happy.”

Reflecting on the victory, she added, she added: “I won the Marathon Metz. That was the first one in October last year, so there was also something new to me, but definitely this one is very special because I live here and I had lots of people on the streets, colleagues that came and supported me. So this one feels special.”

Germany’s Carolin Minas finished second in the women’s marathon with a net time of 3:03:28, while Luxembourg’s Shefi Xhaferaj of CAPA Ettelbréck secured third place in 3:05:04.

In the men’s half marathon, victory went to Germany’s Simon Bong, who completed the course in a net time of 1:07:18. Luxembourg’s Yonas Kinde of Citabel Sports finished second in 1:10:27, while Germany’s Fabian Kuklinski secured third place in 1:11:00.2

The women’s half marathon was won by Luxembourg’s Jenny Gloden in a net time of 1:17:02. Anna Reiff of Celtic Diekirch finished second in 1:22:34, sharing the same time as fellow Luxembourg runner Anne Reiser, also representing Celtic Diekirch, who completed the podium in third place.

The 20th anniversary edition of the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg will take place on Saturday 8 May 2027.
