The Immigration Directorate of Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has confirmed that, within the agreement to take in a total of 557 refugees coming through Greece and Spain by the end of 2017, the Grand Duchy has taken in another 48 people from Italy.
Luxembourg is determined to ensure that the mechanism, implemented from the decisions taken by the JHA Council in September 2015, works and continues its commitments.
The 48 people include 44 adults and 4 children. The number of relocations from Italy now stands at 159 out of a total of 248, while 272 out of 309 have been relocated from Greece.
Representatives of the Ministry, the Luxembourg Office for Hospitality and Integration (OLAI) - an administration under the Ministry of Family and Integration - and the Directorate of Health welcomed the people t the airport.
OLAI will take care of the reception and the social support of these newly-arrived and will support them in their approaches of everyday life throughout their requests for international protection which go through the asylum procedure as provided for by the Law of 18 December 2015 on international protection and temporary protection.
