On Wednesday morning, a construction worker died while working on the bridge in Echternach, on the E29 / N11A; the bridge across the Sauer river links Germany and Luxembourg and is currently being reinforced and strengthened.
The bridge was damaged and has been closed for security reasons.
One worker died in the accident which happened at around 08:45, while another was hospitalised with what were described as minor injuries.
Both the prosecutor's office and the ITM have been informed of the incident. The public prosecutor has ordered a forensic examination to be undertaken at the scene of the accident. In addition, road construction management as well as other specialists were called to the site to check the extent of the damage to the bridge.
A deviation has been set up for traffic as the bridge will be closed to all traffic until Friday 8 September in the evening.
