On Wednesday 20 May 2026, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) announced that Grand Duke Guillaume visited its headquarters in Luxembourg-Gasperich where he officially presented the organisation with its new Corps flag.

The ceremony marked Grand Duke Guillaume’s first official visit to the CGDIS and highlighted both the organisation’s institutional identity and changes within the leadership of the Centre d’Incendie et de Secours (CIS) Luxembourg. The events also marked the appointment of Major Annick Baustert as head of the country’s largest fire and rescue centre, making her the first woman to hold the position.

Around 400 firefighters and invited guests attended the official ceremony at the Centre National d’Incendie et de Secours (CNIS), during which the Head of State formally presented the new Corps flag to CGDIS Director General Paul Schroeder. The flag now bears the monogram of Grand Duke Guillaume and incorporates the organisation’s four newly adopted values: commitment; reliability; professional conduct; and solidarity. According to the CGDIS, the organisation established these values following a “large scale” participatory process.

Following the flag presentation, Grand Duke Guillaume attended the presentation of function insignia to the new leadership team of CIS Luxembourg in the presence of Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden, Chairman of the Board Alain Becker and Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer.

During the ceremony, speakers paid tribute to outgoing centre chief Colonel Serge Heiles, who will retire after serving ten years in the role. CGDIS Director General Paul Schroeder then presented Major Annick Baustert with her function insignia ahead of her official appointment as chief of CIS Luxembourg on 1 June 2026.

Lieutenant Chris Monzel, who succeeded Major Baustert as deputy chief of the centre, also received his function insignia from the Director General of the CGDIS.
