On Monday 18 May 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Education, Children and Youth reported on the inauguration of the new Toodlermillen Family & Youth Camp in Tadler.
According to the ministry, on Friday 16 May, Luxembourg’s Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, in the presence of representatives of the non-profit organisations Scouting in Luxembourg and Luxembourg Youth Hostels, attended the inauguration of the Toodlermillen Family & Youth Camp, which was acquired by the State after it was put up for sale by the Keiser family in 2024.
Located in Tadler, in the Sûre Valley, the campsite offers a setting that combines nature, public hospitality and communal living. From Monday 25 May, it will welcome families, youth groups, travellers and nature lovers in a preserved natural environment, close to the Öewersauer Nature Park, Esch-sur-Sûre and the Upper Sûre Lake.
In his speech, Minister Meisch emphasised that the State’s acquisition of the campsite will make it easier to organise camps for youth movements, particularly scouts, who in the past had reported difficulties in finding suitable sites. However, the campsite will not be exclusively reserved for scouts and will remain open to the public. “With the Toodlermillen campsite, we are creating a new infrastructure for young people, a place that promotes encounters, community living and real human experiences. In a time marked by the growing presence of screens, it is essential to offer children and young people attractive activities that encourage exchange, engagement and community life,” said Minister Meisch.
The Toodlermillen Family & Youth Camp is managed by the non-profit organisation Luxembourg Youth Hostels (AJL) and the National Youth Service (SNJ). Luxembourg Youth Hostels is responsible for the operational management of the campsite as well as bookings, while the involvement of the SNJ facilitates cooperation in logistics and organisation, particularly during youth movement camps.
For AJL, managing the Toodlermillen campsite will further develop the hosting of groups and young people in a natural and friendly environment, while strengthening synergies with stakeholders in the youth sector and fostering exchange.
Scouting in Luxembourg is a strategic partner of the campsite. The site will be a valuable asset for both scouting federations, which regularly organise national camps bringing together between 500 and 1,000 participants. Thanks to the new site, these large gatherings can now be organised at Toodlermillen and the first major camp is scheduled for summer 2028.
The ministry noted that the Toodlermillen camp offers infrastructure designed to ensure a comfortable and welcoming stay, including a reception, a bar with terrace, a mini shop, a bakery service, free Wi-Fi, sports and leisure areas, a dishwashing area, sanitary facilities and laundry equipment.
The campsite is organised into several zones designed to meet different uses and types of stays:
⁃ Family Camp: an area intended for families and visitors travelling with their own equipment, whether tents, caravans, vans or campervans;
⁃ Youth Camp: an area dedicated to communal life, where groups can set up their own tents. The Toodlermillen campsite is particularly suited to the needs of scouts and other youth groups, thanks to its natural environment and appropriate infrastructure for organising camps. It offers extensive outdoor activity areas, woodland for camp constructions and campfires, as well as dedicated pitches;
⁃ Evasion Camp: the future area dedicated to glamping and unusual accommodation. This vehicle-free zone will open from the 2027 season and will include cabins and equipped tents;
⁃ Beach: an area located along the riverbank, allowing visitors to enjoy the immediate proximity of the Sûre;
⁃ Village: the heart of the site, with the reception, café and main communal areas. It serves as the campsite’s main meeting and welcome point.
The camp has 120 pitches, which are now available for booking for the 2026 season.
The ministry said the May opening marks the launch of an initial operational phase. The campsite will be accessible from this season onwards, while certain facilities and developments will gradually enhance the offer in the coming years.
