On Wednesday 16 September 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported three arrests across Luxembourg following a physical altercation involving a stab wound in Esch-sur-Alzette, a shoplifting incident in Luxembourg City and an assault in Echternach.

According to the police, during the night leading into Tuesday 15 September, officers became aware of a physical altercation in Rue de l’Alzette in Esch-sur-Alzette. At the scene, they encountered several people, one of whom had a stab wound in the chest area. Initial information indicated that a dispute had occurred after a man had harassed a woman. When other people became aware of the situation and intervened, an altercation ensued, during which the suspect allegedly injured one of those involved with an unknown object. The injured man received initial treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital for further medical treatment.

Officers brought the suspect under control at the scene. On the order of the public prosecutor’s office, he was arrested and brought before an investigating judge. Further investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident at around 10:30 on Tuesday, police received a report of shoplifting at a shop on Avenue de la Porte-Neuve in Luxembourg City. According to initial information, a man had placed several food items and alcoholic drinks in a bag before leaving the shop without paying for them. Shortly afterwards, police received a report of a suspicious person on a tram travelling towards the central railway station who matched the description of the suspected offender.

A police patrol located the man a short time later in the area of the central railway station. During the check, officers seized the previously stolen goods and returned them to the shop. On the order of the public prosecutor’s office, the man was arrested and brought before an investigating judge that afternoon. A corresponding report was drawn up.

Meanwhile, at around 17:00 on Tuesday, police received a report of a fight on Place du Marché in Echternach. At the scene, officers encountered an unconscious man who received initial medical treatment and subsequent care. According to initial information, a dispute had previously occurred between several people in an establishment. During the incident, one of those involved allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

The suspected offender had initially left the scene but was located a short time later at Echternach Lake during the subsequent search. A check of his identity revealed that an arrest warrant had already been issued against him. On the order of the public prosecutor’s office, the arrest warrant was executed and the man was taken to a remand detention facility. A corresponding report was drawn up in connection with the assault.
