The Grand Ducal Police have reported that alcohol and drug checks were carried out in Luxembourg City, Kayl and Dudelange during the night of Friday 13 to Saturday 14 March 2026.
According to the police, in Luxembourg City’s Gare district the operation was conducted on the order of the public prosecutor’s office and involved 33 police officers, including a dog handler.
A total of 107 drivers were subjected to a mandatory breath test as well as a saliva test for the detection of narcotics (DrugWipe).
In eight cases, the alcohol test returned a positive result, resulting in seven reports being issued and one on-the-spot fine; four driving licences were confiscated at the scene.
In seven cases, the DrugWipe test was positive and seven reports were issued. In one case, a small quantity of cannabis was discovered.
Additional offences recorded during the operation included two on-the-spot fines for driving without a licence, one for driving despite a driving ban, one for lack of insurance, two for an expired technical inspection, three for an invalid tax disc, one for not wearing a seatbelt (€74 fine and two points) and one for tyres lacking visible tread grooves across the entire tread surface.
Police also carried out alcohol checks in Kayl and Dudelange during the same night on the instruction of the public prosecutor.
In Rue de Noertzange in Kayl, 190 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test. In seven cases the test returned a positive result and five reports were issued. Two driving licences were confiscated at the scene. One driver tested positive for narcotics, one driver was not in possession of a driving licence and three offences relating to invalid vehicle documents (expired technical inspection) were recorded.
In Dudelange, Route de Luxembourg, 63 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test. In seven cases the test returned a positive result and five reports were issued, with two driving licences confiscated at the scene. One driver tested positive for narcotics, two drivers were subject to a driving ban, one driver was driving with an expired licence and another was unable to present a driving licence. One offence relating to invalid vehicle documents (expired technical inspection) was also recorded, along with one on-the-spot fine for possession of narcotics and the collection of one unpaid fine.
