On Saturday 1 February 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Mobility and Public Works confirmed that the Moselle river lock at Müden has reopened.

According to the ministry, following a series of successful final tests, the Moselle lock in Müden was fully reopened today; this marks a decisive step towards the normalisation of inland shipping on the Moselle and ensures the unrestricted use of this important traffic artery.

With the full reopening of the lock, shipping traffic is returning to normal. This is particularly important for the economy, trade and security of supply in the entire region.

Since the beginning of the crisis, the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works has been in close contact with the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport as well as with economic and logistical players in order to minimise the impact of the disruptions and ensure the continuity of supply chains. The government's rapid implementation of alternative measures, such as the temporary suspension of driving bans for heavy goods vehicles, has supported Luxembourg companies during this challenging time.

Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg's Minister for Mobility and Public Works, stressed: "I am pleased that the Müden lock is fully functional again after intensive repair and testing measures. The earlier reopening in February instead of March is the result of excellent cooperation between all those involved, who worked with great commitment to quickly restore this essential infrastructure. The past few weeks have once again highlighted the central importance of the Moselle for cross-border transport. Luxembourg will continue to actively work towards an efficient and resilient infrastructure in order to ensure the smooth movement of goods and people in the long term."
