On Wednesday 29 January 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, together with the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration, announced the creation of the Veterinary and Food Laboratory (LVA).
According to the ministry, when the current government was established at the end of 2023, it was decided to continue the consolidation reform initiated by the previous government in the field of food chain control with the creation of the new Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA).
In this context, the government decided that the Food Surveillance Service (SSA) of the National Health Laboratory (LNS) would be transferred to ALVA in order to merge it with the State Veterinary Medicine Laboratory (LMVE).
This merger, effective since 1 January 2025, gave rise to the Veterinary and Food Laboratory (LVA), a division of ALVA under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture. It constitutes the final step aimed at centralising the entire control of the food chain, covering inspection, surveillance and laboratory analyses, under the authority of a single ministry.
The new LVA laboratory is located at the same address as before (1 rue Louis Rech, L-3555 Dudelange).
