On Wednesday 8 January 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity reported that Minister Yuriko Backes hosted representatives of the Luxembourg Commission for Ethics in Advertising (CLEP) on Monday 16 December 2024.

The aim of the meeting with the CLEP, which is part of the Advertising Council, was to have an open exchange on how advertisements reflect society, addressing both gender and diversity issues. It was decided to intensify the collaboration between the Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity (MEGA) and CLEP.

Minister Backes stressed during the interview: "The fight against stereotypes and sexism is an integral part of MEGA’s work and I am convinced that a positive and cliché-free representation promotes a society in which people, in all their diversity, feel more included and better perceived."

The CLEP representatives added that: "Advertising must strive to create and maintain relationships of trust and respect with the audiences it aims to influence. This must be done in accordance with the professional ethics of the communication profession and the ethics that our target audiences have the right to expect. To achieve this, awareness-raising work among all stakeholders is essential. We are delighted with the meeting with MEGA and are deeply grateful to the Minister for her attentiveness and openness to closer collaboration between the Ministry and our association. This is a major step in giving gender and diversity issues the role they deserve."

CLEP is a neutral and independent body, appointed by a tripartite representative of the communications sector. Its mission is to enforce the Code of Ethics, which is based on the general principles of the Consolidated Code of Advertising and Marketing Communications Practices of the International Chamber of Commerce.
