On Monday 14 October 2024, Luxembourg's Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, Yuriko Backes, signed the Diversity Charter Lëtzebuerg on behalf of her ministry.

As explained by the Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity, the Diversity Charter Lëtzebuerg was created in 2012 and consists of six articles. It was designed as an Inspiring More Sustainability (IMS) project that also ensures day-to-day management. The charter is a commitment text that can be signed by any organisation in Luxembourg wishing to commit to acting in favour of the promotion and management of diversity through concrete actions going beyond legal obligations.

In addition, two conditions are necessary to remain a signatory member of the charter: submit a good practice to IMS every two years, which is then published by IMS on the charter website; complete the diversity barometer.

At the signing, Minister Backes said: "Given that our ministry's mission has included commitments in the field of diversity for almost a year now, it is essential to go beyond fine words and integrate diversity into all areas of our work. Signing the charter is a crucial step in the right direction and I look forward to getting started. As a signatory, our role will also be to further promote the charter within public institutions and ensure that we communicate across the entire diversity spectrum."

In order to ensure good governance and structural funding of the charter, IMS has set up a strategic committee comprising seven preferred partners, namely PWC, Sodexo, Caceis, Linklaters, Deutsche Bank, HSBC and the Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity. After the signing ceremony, Minister Backes discussed the implementation of the new strategy of the charter with the leaders of the other preferred partners.

To date, the Diversity Charter Lëtzebuerg has more than 320 signatory organisations from the public, voluntary and private sectors.
