The Grand Ducal Police have reported that two individuals were arrested and two driving licences were confiscated on Friday 27 September 2024.

On Friday at around 13:00, the police responded to a report of an allegedly intoxicated individual on a bus in Esch-sur-Alzette, at Place Antoine Krier. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a man sleeping on the bus. After waking him, the man appeared disoriented and was reluctant to comply with the officers' requests to leave the bus and the area. Eventually, he was persuaded to exit, but his demeanour quickly soured; he verbally insulted the officers.

The man then proceeded towards Boulevard JF Kennedy, stopping in front of a store with a fruit and vegetable stall. Officers reportedly observed from a distance as he helped himself to fruit from the stall without paying. When approached by the officers and asked to compensate the store for the fruit, he refused. Consequently, the officers took him into custody and transported him to a holding cell.

According to the police, the man exhibited violent resistance multiple times during the processing at the hospital for a medical certificate and at the police station, necessitating physical restraint. One officer sustained minor injuries following this incident. The individual was charged with rebellion and shoplifting.

Amid these proceedings, a woman arrived at the police station, identifying herself as the man's sister. She reportedly displayed “aggressive and provocative behaviour” towards the officers, demanding to see her brother. Due to the ongoing situation, access was denied, which resulted in a heated altercation with the police. Another officer suffered minor injuries during this incident. The woman was eventually calmed down, but following a medical evaluation, she was detained and also charged with rebellion.

At around 22:20, a heavily intoxicated person was reported in his van at a petrol station in Junglinster. A police patrol was able to find the man on site. It was established that he had been drinking heavily; an alcohol test was positive. The officers noted there were several open bottles of alcohol inside the car. The driver's licence was confiscated.

Later, at around 22:50, the officers noticed a vehicle being driven erratically on the Avenue de la Liberté in the direction of Rue de Longwy in Niederkorn. The driver was eventually stopped and checked. According to the police, he was so intoxicated that he could barely speak. He was unable to show his on-board documents. It was established that he had already been subject to a driving ban (on his route to work) since June 2024. As he stated that he had been in several pubs and not at work, the public prosecutor's office was informed. They ordered the withdrawal of his driving license and the confiscation of the vehicle.
