On Friday 2 February 2024, a ceremony took place at the National Fire and Rescue Centre (Centre National d'Incendie et de secours - CNIS), swearing in 31 professional firefighters, hired and trained by the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS).
Under the command of Colonel Steve Mack, Director of the national rescue training institute, this ceremony took place in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister of Home Affairs, Léon Gloden, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Alain Becker, the Director General of the CCGDIS, Paul Schroeder, relatives of the new firefighters as well as CGDIS staff involved in their training.
The ceremony, signifying the end of their course consisting of training blocks and numerous internships, marked the commencement of their career dedicated to the protection and service of the population.
Three flag bearers who completed their training with the best results opened the ceremony.
During his opening speech, the Director General highlighted the importance of missions relating to emergency services provided for the benefit of the population. He invited the newly sworn in to wear their uniform with pride, a symbol of the “exemplary nature they must demonstrate throughout of their career serving the population”.
Alain Becker, Chairman of the board of directors, for his part, emphasised the numerous prospects offered by the firefighter career under the status of civil servant, before warmly congratulating the new promotion.
Minister Gloden finally praised the commitment of the CCGDIS staff, emphasising the risks to which firefighters are exposed and the need to provide them with adequate tools and to continue to offer them training enabling them to deal with each intervention.
The CGDIS noted it continues to recruit new talents to ensure the security and well-being of the citizens of Luxembourg. This year once again, a campaign of recruitment of professional firefighters and professional fire officers is planned. Applications will be open from 13 March to 12 May 2024.
An information day will also be organised on Saturday 16 March 2024 to provide all the information necessary for those interested.
