On Wednesday 17 January 2024, the Luxembourg government's Crisis unit met again at 14:00 and lifted the Red Alert

Chaired by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Léon Gloden, the Crisis Unit reviewed the evolving situation. With the freezing rain / black ice now passed, the Crisis Unit confirmed that situation is slowly starting to ease, with an increase in temperatures expected during the afternoon. During the evening, precipitation may gradually turn into snow.

As a result, the red “bad weather” alert was lifted at 14:00; an orange alert will remain in effect until 16:00.

The authorities continue to monitor developments closely.

The traffic ban for trucks > 7.5t on the entire motorway network was lifted at midday.

Trains are running normally. Express buses to Saarbrücken remain suspended until 15:00.

Primary schools, secondary schools, specialist educational psychology skill centres and education and reception structures will resume their normal operation tomorrow, Thursday 18 January.
