On Monday 15 January 2024, the Grand Ducal Police announced details of an action plan formulated in respect of strengthening police presence in the Gare, Bonnevoie and city centre (Ville-Haute) neighbourhoods of Luxembourg city to address the increased feeling of insecurity among the population.
According to the Grand Ducal Police, the action plan aims to ensure public safety and health and mainly targets phenomena linked to drug trafficking, illegal immigration, access control to public buildings and organised or even aggressive begging.
Following the awareness phase, the phenomenon of organised or even aggressive begging, as targeted by the municipal authorities, will initially be targeted from today. Proactive police control actions will be carried out at the locations and during the time slots defined in the amended police regulations of Luxembourg City.
The police presence will be gradually reinforced seven days a week, especially between 07:00 and 20:00 in the Gare, Bonnevoie and Ville-Haute districts. The aim is to ensure a regular and visible presence in the relevant neighbourhoods. The reinforced police presence will take the form of "preventive and repressive" foot patrols.
This action plan was established in close collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Mayor of Luxembourg City and it will be adapted according to the evolution of the situation and analysed at regular intervals.
The Grand Ducal Police concluded its statement by confirming that all urgent interventions as well as the reception of citizens in Luxembourg will continue to be provided by the respective units.
