The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a major fire broke out in an apartment building on the Esplanade in Diekirch on Friday 12 January 2024.

The police received reports of the fire at around 04:22 on Friday. When the police officers arrived, most residents had already left the apartment building. One resident suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital after receiving first aid on-site.

The Public Prosecutor's Office commissioned the criminal investigation department of the police to carry out investigations at the scene of the fire in order to determine the cause. The street in question was closed to traffic during the operation.

As reported by the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), one day earlier, at around 13:00 on Thursday 11 January 2024, the emergency services responded to a fire that had broken out on the roof of a building in Mondorf-les-Bains.
