Luxembourg's Prison Administration has confirmed that a visitor to the Centre pénitentiaire de Luxembourg (CPL), otherwise known as Schrassig Prison, was caught recently trying to smuggle in cannabis.

On Wednesday 13 April 2022, a customs drug detector dog facilitated the discovery of 199.4 grams of hashish on a visitor who had attempted to introduce this illicit substance into the prison whilst visiting an inmate. The sniffer dog was on the scene as part of a drug check at Schrassig Prison.

The incident was reported to the Grand Ducal Police.

Until September 2022, the dog handlers of the canine service of the Prison Administration will continue to follow their training with Luxembourg's Customs and Excise Agency. At the end of this training, their presence in the field will be manifested by regular checks which are deemed essential in the context of the fight against narcotics in the prison environment.

The Prison Administration recalled that each person wishing to visit an inmate at Schrassig Prison is subject to a security check when they enter the prison. Any violation of the law, for example with regard to illicit substances, is immediately reported to the Grand Ducal Police.
